Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program

Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) is a program that forgives the remaining balance on federal Direct Loans after 120 on-time payments (about 10 years) for individuals who are employed full-time in a “qualifying profession,” including social work. The Department of Education will make its first round of disbursements to its first 10-year cohort in 2017. Due to the predicted high cost of this program following the first and subsequent disbursements, Congress has considered eliminating it or narrowing the list of eligible professions. CSWE wants to ensure that PSLF is available for social workers.
