  • Understanding Federal Threats Against Inclusive Education

It’s been another eventful week here in the Washington metropolitan area. We all saw several new policy changes in the media that we must now, once again, understand and monitor. The Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) continues to examine the impact of Executive Orders (EO) and other policy proposals on social work education and advocate for policies that protect and advance well-being, and we wanted to provide an update and context for the events of this week.

  • CSWE's Commitment to Stand Strong Amid Policy Shifts

It has been a busy first quarter of 2025. We have been privileged to spend time with our social work community at CSWE’s Spring Governance meeting as well as the annual BPD, NADD, and GADE events. We genuinely appreciate your kindness and hospitality and thank you for creating spaces for us to provide updates, information, and consultation to our shared communities. Our teams returned to the office with ideas, strategies, recommendations, areas for improvement, and gratitude for your support in navigating these uncharted waters. We heard what you said, and we are emboldened by our collective courage to not give in, give out, or give up, but to move forward with both hope and strategy because neither is a substitute for the other.

  • CSWE Releases Inaugural Accreditation Standards for Practice Doctorate Social Work

The Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) and its Board of Accreditation (BOA) celebrates the release of the inaugural Accreditation Standards for Practice Doctorate Social Work Program Accreditation. CSWE’s BOA and its Commission on Educational Policy (COEP) formed a joint writing committee, reviewed feedback, and developed the final standards. The accreditation standards were approved unanimously by the BOA on February 6, 2025. Additional accreditation services and resources such as trainings, policy handbooks, interpretation guides, templates, and forms will be shared with programs and posted on the CSWE website later in 2025.

Research

The CSWE organizational mission includes the charge to advocate for social work education and research. CSWE's strategic plan outlines the need for research to inform policy and practice and to serve the needs of CSWE member programs—their deans, directors, faculty members, and students. The CSWE Commission on Research (COR) and CSWE research staff work to serve that need. The COR developed research priorities with input from the CSWE commissions and councils to guide their work; they will report on progress periodically.
