How to Submit a Nomination for the CSWE 2020 Professional Awards Cycle

Question 1: When can nominations be submitted?

The nomination cycle begins on Thursday, January 2, 2020, and ends at 11:59 pm (ET) on Monday, February 3, 2020.

Question 2: Which awards are eligible for these nominations?

  • The Significant Lifetime Achievement in Social Work Education Award recognizes a social work educator's achievements over his or her entire career.
  • The Distinguished Recent Contributions to Social Work Education Award recognizes a social work educator’s achievements within the last 10 years. 
  • The Early Career Faculty Service and Leadership in Social Work Education Award recognizes a social work educator with fewer than 10 years of service who has advanced and promoted social work education and provided significant contributions to extend its reach. The award acknowledges extraordinary leadership contributions that affect social work education locally, nationally, or globally.
  • The Established Faculty Service and Leadership in Social Work Education Award recognizes a social work educator with 10 years or longer of service excellence whose work has advanced and promoted social work education and provided a significant contribution to extend its reach. The award acknowledges extraordinary leadership contributions that affect social work education locally, nationally, or globally.

Question 3: What are the nomination criteria for these awards?

The following are criteria for selecting recipients of the Significant Lifetime Achievement and the Distinguished Recent Contributions awards.

  • Current CSWE membership is required for the nominee and the nominator.
  • Two to five letters of support are required for each nomination; current CSWE membership is required for at least two of the supporters.
  • Nominees for the Lifetime Achievement Award should be known for exemplary achievements in research and scholarship, pedagogy and curriculum development, and organizational leadership.
  • Nominees for the Recent Contributions Award should be exemplary in at least two of the following areas: research and scholarship, pedagogy and curriculum development, organizational leadership.

The following criteria are used in selecting recipients of the Early Career and Established Faculty awards.

  • Current CSWE membership is required for the nominee and the nominator.
  • Two to five letters of support are required for each nomination; current CSWE membership is required for at least two of the supporters.
  • Nominees should be exemplary for distinguished service contributions and innovative leadership in advancing social work education locally, nationally, or globally.
  • Early career nominees should have been in the faculty role fewer than 10 years.
  • Established nominees should have been in the faculty role for 10 years or longer.

Question 4: What are the nomination requirements?

Nominees and nominators must be current CSWE individual members. Current CSWE membership is required for at least two of nomination supporters (up to five per nomination). To verify a person’s eligibility for those roles, please e-mail membership@cswe.org or call Olga Jones at +1.703.519.2067. A nomination consists of the following set of materials.

  1. Nomination Reason Statement, which provides specific reasons for the nomination and addresses each of the three criteria for the nomination.
  2. Nominee's curriculum vita (CV)
  3. Letters of support from two to five persons; current CSWE membership is required for at least two of the supporters.

Question 5: Who has received the awards in the past?

Question 6: How are nominations submitted?

The nomination materials must be submitted using the online CSWE 2020 Professional Awards Nomination system. Each nominator will select the award type, enter the nominee's contact information, provide the nominator's contact information, and upload the required nomination materials as listed under Question 4. The nomination cycle opens on Thursday, January 2, 2020, and will close at 11:59 pm (ET) on Monday, February 3, 2020.

Question 7: When will the award selections be announced?

The 2020 award recipients will be announced in March 2020.

Question 8: When will the 2020 awards be presented?

The 2020 awards will be presented during the 2020 Annual Program Meeting (APM), which will be held November 12–16 in Denver, CO. The name of each awardee will also be inscribed on the Leadership Legacy Tree on display at the CSWE office.
