2018 Hokenstad International Lecture

The Hokenstad International Lecture series was launched in 2007 through an endowment from M. C. “Terry” Hokenstad, a former president and long-time member of CSWE. The 2018 Hokenstad International Lecture will be given during the CSWE Annual Program Meeting (APM) in Orlando, FL, on Saturday, November 10, 8:45 am–10:15 am. The Partners in International Education Awards will be presented at 8:45 am, immediately preceding the lecture.

2018-Innette-Cambridge-Picture-(1).JPGThe CSWE Commission on Global Social Work Education selected Dr. Innette Cambridge from the University of the West Indies in Trinidad for the 2018 Hokenstad International Lecturer.

Dr. Cambridge is a senior lecturer and coordinates the Social Policy Programme of the Social Work Unit at the University of the West Indies, Trinidad. She was the first local teacher in social work when the Social Work Programme began in 1990. She has developed a Disability Studies Unit, elective courses in disability studies, gerontology, sociology of families, and social development policy. She also pioneered teaching initiatives in social impact assessment, technology in the classroom, and international social work.

Her tertiary education consists of a bachelor of arts from Moorhead State University, Minnesota; masters in sociology from the University of Paris; and a PhD from Bristol University in England.

Dr. Cambridge has written more than 30 published research articles and conference reports and has participated as a presenter or lecturer at more than 50 conferences worldwide.  Her papers and publications are in the areas of disability studies, social work education, child welfare, and social policy.

She served as a visiting professor at the University of Bordeaux, France, and as a consultant to the All Africa Conference of Churches and to UNESCO. In 2004 Dr. Cambridge was awarded a UWI/Guardian Life Award for Excellence in Teaching.
