Entry info, 2015 Film Festival

FilmFestLogoFnl.jpgThe annual film festival of the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) reflects the many issues that social work educators must cover in their classrooms. Submit your film to the 2015 CSWE Film Festival, which is scheduled for CSWE’s 61st Annual Program Meeting in Denver, CO, on October 16–18, 2015. Complete your entry by Friday, June 5, 2015, to have your film considered for inclusion in the festival.

Why Should I Participate?

• Although deserving, the best films that deal with social work issues may not receive as much attention as popular Hollywood films, depriving social work educators of films and documentaries that could enhance their teaching. The CSWE Film Festival can raise the profile of your film among educators, students, and other social work leaders.
• By participating in the Film Festival, you can share your film with more than 2,500 potential customers and provide marketing and ordering information directly to decision makers.
• Prior film festivals have been consistently well attended. CSWE representatives screen the films and distribute your printed materials at no extra cost beyond the submission fee. CSWE also may elect to provide clips or trailers of films selected for the Film Festival on its YouTube channel and multimedia blog prior to the festival.

Guidelines and Information

1. List a hyperlink on the entry form as to where your film may be viewed (such as through a YouTube or Vimeo account), or submit two nonreturnable DVDs (NTSC Region 1 or 0) of your film.  The link must be to the entire film, not a trailer or clip.
2. All films must address issues that pertain to social work education such as aging, human rights, lesbian/gay/ bisexual/transgender issues, and similar areas. To ascertain if a film may be a good fit for the festival, see the Official Selection for the 2014 CSWE Film Festival, review a flyer that lists past festival films by topic, or consult the list of APM programming Tracks.
3. Films will be prescreened. A limited number of films will be accepted into the Film Festival. We will not return submitted DVDs for any reason. Entry fees are nonrefundable.
4. A 50-word synopsis of the film is required. It will be included in the Final Program.
5. If your film is accepted, we will request flyers or other materials. These materials are distributed by conference staff or volunteers at the conference. All extra materials are nonreturnable.
6. The Film Festival is part of CSWE’s Annual Program Meeting. Each attendee, including directors and other parties associated with the film, must pay the meeting registration fee to attend the film screening.
7. Question-and-answer sessions led by the director or other party are by invitation only.
8. Each film accepted into the Film Festival will be eligible for the Audience Choice Award. The winning film is determined by audience scores for content, presentation, technical aspects, potential benefits of the film for students, and overall attendance. This is not a monetary award.
