​​CSWE is pleased to offer four preconference events at the 2021 Annual Program Meeting (APM). Attendance at each event requires a separate registration and fee.

Leadership Development Institute
November 3

The CSWE Leadership Institute is intended for anyone interested in leadership development. This includes associate deans, directors of admissions, program directors, and others. The Leadership Institute will feature a series of workshops on the following topics: 

  • Growing leadership skills 
  • Leadership styles for challenging times (anti-racist leadership practices and feminist leadership model) 
  • Leadership in times of crisis

Field Education Institute
November 4

The CSWE Field Education Institute is designed for anyone interested in field education. This includes deans and directors, field directors, faculty members, and field personnel. The program will kick off with a keynote speech and panel response followed by a series of breakout sessions among two tracks:

  • Anti-racist practice
  • Cultural humility

Teaching Institute for Faculty
November 4

The CSWE Teaching Institute for Faculty is designed to develop the pedagogical skills of social work educators. This interactive institute will feature keynote sessions followed by a series of workshop sessions on various topics including:

  • Empowering faculty to address reproductive justice and abortion in social work education
  • Teaching about clinical work with diverse populations 
  • Teaching students about cross-cultural social work practice

Technology Summit
November 7

The COVID-19 pandemic had a significant impact on teaching and learning. CSWE responded by creating a Technology Advisory Group which helps members capture the knowledge, innovation, and advances in technology-centered materials that address how educators teach with technology and teach about the use of technology in social work practice. The Technology Advisory Group will host the Technology Summit at the 2021 APM.

The Technology Summit will move beyond using technology in the classroom to examine how to prepare future social workers to be competent with technology in diverse practice settings. Topics will include but are not limited to:

  • How to prepare students for tele-health practices
  • Optimizing technology to transform the generalist social work curriculum
  • Using technology to enhance experiential learning through simulated role plays
