Full Membership

To increase the value of their accreditation, all BSW, MSW, DSW, and PhD social work programs within the United States and its territories are encouraged to become full members of CSWE.

Membership dues for social work programs are determined based on the program's size, as indicated by the number of graduates reported in the previous annual survey If a program is an full member of CSWE, all faculty (full and part time, tenure and non tenure track), students (full and part time), administrators, and staff affiliated with that specific program can take advantage of CSWE member benefits.

Note: Programs that fail to report graduate statistics will be required to pay the maximum membership fee. For programs with 61+ undergraduate and 61+ graduate students, the maximum membership dues owed would not exceed $15,000 combined, not counting technology transaction fees.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can be a member of CSWE?

CSWE represents everyone who teaches at, studies at, and works for an accredited social work program. There are two categories of membership you may qualify for: Full Membership and Associate Membership

Full membership is a cost-effective way for a program to provide its entire team with CSWE membership, including individuals with paid faculty, administrative, or managerial appointments in programs accredited by CSWE and those in candidacy status. Students from accredited or candidate social work programs are included in this category.

Associate membership is for individuals and eligible programs and organizations, including emeritus and retired social work faculty and administrators, community college and junior college faculty and students, members of agencies, fellowships, professional libraries and library associations and other social work-aligned organizations, and international and domestic social work faculty, staff, and students.

How do I become a member of CSWE?

To join, you must first create your account. Full members are required to link their account to their accredited or in-candidacy program. If you wish to become an individual member, create your account. Click here to initiate the process.

How are full membership dues calculated?

Each spring, CSWE initiates the Annual Survey of Social Work Programs. This survey gathers comprehensive information regarding social work programs, including data on students, graduates, and faculty members. Among the data collected is the number of graduates from each program for the academic year. These graduation counts are used to determine the program membership dues, in accordance with the administrative fees, listed in the Full Membership section above. Program invoices are distributed to all designated primary contacts for programs during the first half of the year.

How much does an associate membership cost?

Associate Member dues depend on the categories listed above in the Associate Membership section.

What is the annual membership deadline?

The membership year runs annually from July 1 to June 30, or for all membership categories. Membership invoices are distributed in January with a payment due date of May 1.

I did not receive our annual membership dues invoice. Where can I seek assistance?

Please reach out to our Member Services staff who would be happy to issue you a copy of your annual membership dues invoice. You can email [email protected].

I would like to pay for membership dues via credit card. What is the process of remitting payment?

Membership dues invoices are emailed annually to the primary contact of your institution (program membership) and to individuals (individual membership).

Primary contacts can pay by credit card through the CSWE member portal. Log in, click on "My Account," then "My Invoices." Program members can pay under "Pay Company Invoices" and associate members under "Pay Individual Dues."

If you are a staff member responsible for processing the annual membership dues payment but not the primary contact for a program membership, you may request to be designated as the "Financial Contact" for your program. This designation will allow you to make credit card payments through the member portal.

To be listed as the financial contact, please contact Joann Brown-Thompson, Membership Coordinator, via email at [email protected] or by phone at 703-519-2067.

What are the available methods for paying membership dues?

CSWE accepts credit card, check, and bank transfer/ACH. Credit card payments can be processed through the CSWE Member Portal for primary contacts and financial contacts for both institutional and individual memberships by logging into your CSWE account

Credit card payments can also be accepted by phone by calling the CSWE Member Services at: 703-519-2067 during regular business hours.

Please send checks to: Council for Social Work Education, 333 John Carlyle Street, Suite 400, Alexandria, VA, 22314

Contact [email protected] to set up bank transfer/ACH payments.

I recently joined CSWE. When will my benefits begin?

I have recently changed institutions. Can I keep my membership?
