NNC Practice Representative
Maleshia Neugebauer, MBA, MSW, LISW-S, CCM
I am driven to elevate the voices of social workers across all business sectors, positioning them as essential collaborators within existing systems. My goal is to dismantle barriers and empower individuals to reach their full potential. With over 20 years of experience, I am a culturally competent and empathetic leader who excels at identifying the intersections between national social policies and their localized impact. I have consistently achieved both short and long-term objectives by strategically leveraging partnerships across education, mental health, care management, nonprofit, government, and social service sectors.
As a macro-level social worker, I am the CEO/Founder of Authentically New LLC which specializes in an authentic, new approach in strategic planning and funding for profit and nonprofit community engagement leaders. I previously worked as the Regional Population Health Strategy Leader for Humana Inc. and solely responsible for strategic planning, project management, and C-suite reporting for community engagement.
As a micro-level social worker, I specialize in creating culturally competent and supportive mental health spaces for BIPOC individuals. My experience includes roles at Cincinnati Children's Hospital and the Cincinnati Veterans Administration, where I honed my skills as a social worker. Additionally, I have served as a homecare liaison, case manager, and personal health coach.
As a Board-Certified Nonprofit Member, I serve on the board of Black Women Cultivating Change, an organization dedicated to reducing the stigma surrounding mental health in the Black community. Additionally, I consult for the United Way Black Empowerment Nonprofits, providing education and training on strategic planning and community building.
My commitment to the profession is unwavering and I work tirelessly to enlighten, empower, and support both community and civic leaders to act on behalf of our most vulnerable populations. My lived-in experience as a minority woman from an underserved community has well prepared me to serve on the CSWE team to influence the quality and just education and training systems for social workers.

Ausirys Alviz, MSW, LCSW, DSW Candidate
As a first-generation Colombian migrant, my journey has been a transformational commitment to healing. I am the first in my family to attend a university, teach at a university level, and establish my own business - milestones that reflect the collective strength of those who came before me. My lived experience informs my work as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, psychotherapist, educator, and advocate in human rights and ecosocial justice. I am passionate about addressing trauma - both personal and systemic - through decolonial, wholistic, and culturally affirming approaches. My clinical work is deeply intertwined with my advocacy, emphasizing the impact of systemic oppression, migration, and cultural displacement on mental health. Beyond private practice, my work extends into education and international advocacy. As an adjunct professor at Monmouth University, I have shared space with future social workers, bridging theory and practice through a critical, human rights-based lens. My involvement with non-profits and social workers have extended to Guatemala, Mexico and Colombia. I have been able to work with Indigenous communities, support fundraising efforts, and co-create initiatives that center on Indigenous knowledge and self-determined healing practices. These experiences fuel my doctoral research in Human Rights Leadership, where I explore the intersections of trauma, identity, and systemic inequities, aiming to disrupt colonial legacies in social work and mental health care. I believe healing is both personal and political. My work is rooted in the belief that liberation and well-being cannot be separated and that addressing individual trauma must go hand-in-hand with dismantling oppressive systems. Through research, clinical practice, and community engagement, I strive to co-create spaces where individuals and communities can reclaim their narratives, honor their histories, and access healing that is culturally and contextually relevant.

Christa Gilliam, PhD, MSW
My journey with CSWE began as a graduate student at UC Berkeley, where I had the opportunity to present on a panel alongside my professors at the Annual Program Meeting (APM). This early engagement solidified my commitment to social work education and its critical role in shaping the profession’s future. I am honored to be considered for the position of Treasurer on the Board of Directors for the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Currently, I serve as an Associate Professor of Social Work at Morgan State University and have dedicated the past three years to the CSWE Board of Directors (BOD) as a BSW Program Representative. In this role, I have contributed to the National Nominating Committee, Governance Committee, Executive Committee, and Awards Committee, gaining valuable experience in leadership, governance, and financial oversight.
I envision a forward-thinking CSWE that not only upholds the core values of social work but also ensures that we are cultivating a well-prepared, adaptable workforce capable of addressing contemporary societal challenges. As Treasurer, I would work collaboratively with my colleagues to maintain CSWE’s financial stability, ensure fiscal responsibility to our member programs, and strengthen CSWE’s position as a leader in advancing social work education. With my experience in governance, financial stewardship, and advocacy, I am prepared to serve as Treasurer and contribute to CSWE’s ongoing efforts to advance social work education, research, and practice. Additionally, I aim to identify new revenue sources for CSWE through increased development efforts, ensuring long-term sustainability.
Through my continued service on the Board, I will work to position CSWE at the forefront of addressing local, national, and global social work issues that impact our faculty, students, and the communities we serve.
