Award Description
The Two-Spirit, Queer, Trans, and/or gender expansive People of Color Award (Spirit Award) recognizes the significant teaching, practice, or service contributions of CSWE member(s) to the two-spirit, queer, transgender, gender non-binary and gender expansive communities of color in programs of social work practice. These contributions may include but are not limited to creating and fostering an inclusive environment in social work programs, developing innovative approaches to ensuring excellence in field education, mentoring two-spirit, queer, transgender, gender non-binary and gender expansive students, faculty, and staff, implementing activities that fosters or sustains a positive and inclusive culture and climate, and elevating core social work values in social work.
This award celebrates the intersectionality of racial/ethnic and gender identity. In the spirit of honoring collectivism of these communities, this honor can be awarded to individuals or a team. The award is designated to highlight teaching, practice, and service contributions to and/or by two-spirit, queer, transgender, gender non-binary and gender expansive communities of color. Applicants who self-identify as LGBTQ+ persons of color or two-spirit persons are encouraged to apply. This is not a research award. All members of CSWE are eligible to apply, including students, faculty, and staff of programs of social work.
Submission Guidelines
To apply, an individual and/or group should submit the following materials:
- A letter outlining their contributions to two-spirit, queer, transgender, gender non-binary and gender expansive communities of color in programs of social work practice using an intersectional approach (2-page max).
- A CV/resume (team nominations should include a CV/resume for all members of the team)
- At least one letter of support outlining the significance the applicant or team has contributed to the lives of two-spirit, queer, transgender, gender non-binary and gender expansive communities of color communities (3 letters max).
Applications will be reviewed jointly by members of the Council on Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity & Expression (CSOGIE) and the Council on Racial, Ethnic, and Cultural Diversity (CRECD).
Nominees must be a CSWE member, including students and staff.

Award
This award includes a $500 honorarium which will be included in the Annual Conference sponsorship package.
