The Center for Diversity and Social & Economic Justice Educator|Resource is a monthly feature that highlights curricular resources and social work educators who address diversity and justice.
Winter and Spring Recap 2020: Matters of Justice
This month’s Educator|Resource features a recap of the previous five issues. This semiannual recap highlights matters of social justice at the micro, mezzo, and macro levels.
Revisit ways social work can create more affirming classrooms, more equitable education, more culturally responsive practice, and more humane social institutions. Areas of focus include marginalization of sexual orientations and gender identities (with a focus on microaggressions and homelessness), racial and ethnic inequities in educational success, poor intervention outcomes among multicultural communities due to interventions that have not been culturally adapted, and solitary confinement of U.S. prisoners.
Explore teaching resources that inform social justice practices across the micro, mezzo, and macro levels:
- Interpersonal level: guidance for addressing behaviors that undermine a person’s value based on marginalized social identities
- Organizational and community level: needs assessment tools, equity-minded competence, and research-based culturally adapted interventions
- Systems level: strategies for advocacy, legislative practice, and policy reform

| A Blueprint to Reduce LGBTQ Youth Homelessness (March) A project that identifies the needs of LGBTQ homeless youths and demonstrates ways that practitioners can create safe and affirming environments for this increasingly vulnerable group |

| Equity-minded Competence in Higher Education (February) Research-based strategies aimed at addressing the social and historical context of exclusionary practices that can be applied to faculty hiring, student success, and curriculum development |

| The NAME Steps: Addressing Anti-LGBTQIA2S+ Microaggressions (January) Guidance for educators to encourage collective responsibility for addressing diversity in social work classrooms by naming and responding to microaggressions |
