I am deeply grateful for CSWE’s scholarship to support my attendance at the Harvard Management Development Program in June, 2019. The MDP was such an incredible opportunity to grow my leadership skills in an environment of supportive and experienced colleagues. Our teachers at MDP, and there were many, were all inspiring and skilled teachers. It was such a privilege to learn from some of the best teachers in higher education leadership. I look forward to returning to my College with concrete new skills and ideas for improving our unit. Thank you, CSWE!

The Harvard Management Development program was truly a gift. I am in my second Administrative position and was facing some challenges that I did not know how to handle. The two week Harvard Management Development Program provided me with the knowledge and skills I needed to successfully navigate these challenges. It provided me with the opportunity to learn from administrators who have a wealth of experience. Finally, it provided me with lifelong colleagues that I can rely on for encouragement and guidance. Leading can sometimes be lonely, but knowing that I have a cadre of dynamic, amazing college presidents, world class researchers, scholars, teachers, and colleagues is an exceptional gift. I came back to Tulane with a renewed sense of purpose and skills that have already transformed how I approach my role as an administrator. CSWE thank you for investing in me. I have learned things that I will draw from throughout my career. Attending Harvard this summer was a game changer. If you are looking for an opportunity to grow as an administrator, I encourage you to apply for one of the leadership programs through CSWE.

Absolutely amazing! Wonderful dynamic instructors. A powerful transformative program.  It was informative at all levels of organizational change in higher education.  We were tutored on how to recognize our individual leadership styles as well as how to build on differences for the benefit of our programs and universities.  The opportunity to have a diverse group of university presidents as guest lecturers really facilitated our understanding of higher education as an industry.  The emphasis on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) was priceless.  Definitely an invaluable process that I will always cherish and use.  I am so appreciative of CSWE for selecting me for this honor.

Attendees, HERS Bryn Mawr Summer Institute

This program is a joint effort with the 2019 HERS Bryn Mawr Summer Institute for the participation of CSWE-recommended persons. That program was held July 9–20, 2018. Each summer since 1976, the HERS Bryn Mawr Summer Institute for Women in Higher Education Administration has provided a residential program with an intensive leadership and management curriculum for approximately 70 women faculty members and administrators on the Bryn Mawr College campus.

I looked forward to participating in the HERS Institute at Bryn Mawr and I was not disappointed; the program exceeded my expectations.  As a faculty member with leadership responsibilities, I wanted to explore stepping into more formal leadership positions within social work education.  The Institute provided me with knowledge of institutional organization and operations, board governance and the interconnection of academic departments in higher education. The Institute has a strong component of self-reflection and assessment that guided me to better understand my leadership skills and style; thereby strengthening my ability to lead a faculty  through a change process.  Most importantly the Institute connected me to a cohort of experienced, talented and resourceful women in higher education around the country and from international contexts.  I have developed a professional network and friendships that I will have for the rest of my life.  I applaud CSWE for supporting women’s leadership development through the HERS Institute!
