On-demand Infusing Mental Health Recovery in Practice and Field Instruction

Event Introduction

CSWE is offering a series of free Web-based events to introduce social workers to the recovery model. The third and final installment in our Web-based series focuses on ways recovery could be mobilized in your personal practice, your agency, and field instruction. Participants will explore characteristics common to recovery-oriented agencies, learn how individual change, organizational transformation, and cultural humility can be used to promote progress toward recovery-orientation, and discover some tangible steps to instill recovery in field instruction settings. This virtual, interactive course is available to view on-demand and features Lauren Spiro, director of the National Coalition for Mental Health Recovery, Marylou Sudders, associate professor at the Boston College Graduate School of Social Work, and Robert M. Ortega, associate professor at the University of Michigan School of Social Work.

There is no cost to access this on-demand distance learning content, and participants are eligible for one free continuing education (CE) credit after successful completion of the course, including the assigned prereading material, a posttest, and an evaluation. (It is recommended that you complete the on-demand versions of Introduction to Mental Health Recovery in Social Work and Mental Health Recovery Competencies in Social Work before participating in part three of our series.)

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to

• describe a model recovery-oriented agency;
• recognize the value of cultural humility in recovery-oriented social work practice;
• describe two cultural humility skills that could be put into practice;
• identify at least two potential exercises to use with students in the field; and 
• list one potential example of a student assessment measure.

Required Prereading

To qualify for CE credit, read the Recovery-Oriented Student Field Assessment Instrument before participating in the on-demand course.

CE Credit for On-Demand Webinar

Participants are eligible for one free CE credit, through CSWE as an ACE provider, after successful completion of the on-demand course, including the prereading material assigned, a posttest, and an evaluation. A link to the prereading assignment can be found above. The posttest and evaluation are administered online at the conclusion of the course. The CE certificate will be e-mailed to participants following their completion of the course requirements.

CSWE, provider #1163, is approved as a provider for social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) through the Approved Continuing Education (ACE) Program. ASWB Approval Period: January 23, 2012–January 23, 2015. Social workers should contact their regulatory board to determine CE approval.
