- Case Western Reserve University will host a roundtable discussion highlighting the field of social work and how Case Western Reserve University’s online Master of Science in Social Administration (MSSA) is helping students change lives and change communities. The roundtable discussion will feature an overview of how the MSSA program is helping to prepare students with the practical knowledge they'll need to become influential leaders in the field of social work, personal experiences from two MSSA graduates, and the various opportunities that exist in social work to positively impact and change lives and communities. The roundtable will take place on Tuesday, March 5, 2013, from 12:00-1:00 pm.
- MacMurray College - Social Work Practice II With Groups and Families plans to advocate for victims of child abuse and neglect. This advocacy will be based on raising awareness, highlighting prevention, and outlining Illinois reporting steps for child abuse and neglect. The class plans to create and distribute national, statewide, and local county child abuse and neglect statistic flyers; present an informational Illinois Mandated Reporting PowerPoint; and show An American Crime, a movie based on a true story of childhood abuse. This project will take place on the MacMurray College campus on Tuesday, March 26, for students and faculty members.
- Phi Alpha, the Social Work Honor Society at the Anne and Henry Zarrow School of Social Work at the University of Oklahoma, will be hosting two CEU events for students and practitioners on March 6 and 7. PASS (Phi Alpha Spring into Skills) will include a 3-hour training on SBIRT on March 6th and a 3-hour training on Social Work Administration and Policy Writing on March 7.
- Southern Illinois University, Carbondale will be hosting a Social Work Day Luncheon and Workshop on March 5.
- Southern University at New Orleans will be hosting a Social Work Month Luncheon on Saturday, March 23, 2013.
- Stony Brook University held its annual Advocacy Day on March 1, 2013, where 11 activist organizations representing transgender support, civil liberties, animal rights and veganism, sexually exploited girls, environmental activism, language equality, immigrant students access to higher education, Occupy Sandy, support for families of prisoners, and social justice through the use of social media met in the university's Student Activities Center. Approximately 200 BSW, MSW, and PhD students interviewed organizations and engaged in intensive working lunches to learn how these small grassroots groups mobilize communities.
- University of Maryland School of Social Work will be holding its Shout Out for Social Work Month event. The theme is financial stability, and the slogan is "Social Workers Help You $ave!" It will be held at the Mayor's Office of Employment Development (MOAD) at Mondawmin Mall in Baltimore on Wednesday, March 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- University of Montevallo Social Work Club will present I-20: Sexual Slavery Superhighway, a new documentary about the most well-used highway to traffic people in the United States
- University of North Carolina, Wilmington School of Social Work weaves together productions of the arts (photography, theater, and film) and social work to look at resillence, advocacy, and the global connections that affect us all on "Volunteering in India: An Adventure" on March 12, 2013, "The Deportee's Wife" on March 18, 2013, and "I Am" on March 25, 2013.
- University of Tennessee, Knoxville will be participating in the Tennessee branch of the National Association of Social Work’s 2013 Social Work Day on the Hill on March 27.
- University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Social Work, in conjunction with the NASW-WI South Central Branch and NASW-WI Clinical Network, will be offering a workshop and free reception. The workshop, “Violence Prevention Through Movement,” will be presented by Rena Kornblum, and teach social workers about movement and body awareness, and how to integrate these into practice. At the free reception in the evening, Darald Hanusa will be an inspirational speaker on the consequences of violent mentalities, and awards for the NASW-WI South Central Branch Distinguished Social Worker and Public Service, as well as the School of Social Work’s Achievement, will be presented on March 13, 2013.

- The School of Social Work (SSW) CyberMentors hosted the 2nd Annual CyberSummit on Thursday, March 7, 2013, at 3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. in room 289 of the Student Center Building. The CyberSummit featured a used cell phone drive; all cell phones collected will be donated to local community organizations serving survivors of domestic violence and homeless populations. During the CyberSummit, representatives from local organizations shared how the donated cell phones will benefit their programs/services.
- The School of Social Work Annual Dean's Diversity Lecture is scheduled to take place Thursday, March 21, 2013. The lecture will be held from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. in the Spencer Partrich Law School Auditorium on the Wayne State University Campus and will focus on Cultural Competence with LGBTQI populations. The lecture will feature a keynote speaker; Lori Messinger, professor and director, School of Social Work, College of Health and Human Services, University of North Carolina, Wilmington. Messinger’s talk will be followed by a panel discussion featuring social work professors Kim Jaffee of Wayne State and Michael Woodford of University of Michigan; a representative from the WSU Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity – Social Work (SOGI-SW) student organization; and a social work practitioner from metro Detroit. At the event’s conclusion, Messinger will sign copies of the book she coauthored with Deana Morrow, Sexual Orientation and Gender Expression in Social Work Practice: Working with Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Trangender People. The event is free and has been approved by the Michigan Social Work Continuing Education Collaborative for two Continuing Education Contact Hours (with a $10 processing fee payable at the lecture).
- School of Social Work Alumni Association Annual Awards Luncheon pays tribute to those who help the homeless population. Honorees include Risarg (Reggie) Huff, director of homeless services for Neighborhood Service Organization, as MSW Alumnus of the Year and Universal Motown Records recording star KEM as Citizen of the Year. The event takes place on Friday, March 29, 2013, 11:30-1:00 p.m., at the McGregor Memorial Conference Center on the Wayne State University campus. RSVP online with payment by March 20, 2013.
