PSU to Create National Social Work Education Health Futures Lab
Portland State University School of Social Work has received a 2-year, $400,000 award from the
Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to create a national Social Work Education Health Futures
Lab. The lab will explore how trends in technology, climate change, geopolitical shifts, and the
future of work will affect health, social determinants of health, and related social justice,

2020 USPHS IPEC Award: Final Call for Applications
The fourth U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) Award will showcase interprofessional efforts to positively affect community health. All awardees will be featured on the IPEC website, promoted across partner websites, highlighted through social media campaigns, and recognized throughout member communications. The NAME Steps: Addressing Anti-LGBTQIA2S+ Microaggressions
The January 2020 Educator|Resource features The NAME Steps: How to Name and Address Anti-LGBTQIA2S+ Microagressions in Social Work Classrooms. The NAME steps provide guidance for educators in naming and responding to microaggressions in the classroom and was developed in collaboration with members of the CSWE Council on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and Expression.

Call for Proposals Open for 2020 APM
CSWE invites proposals for the 66th Annual Program Meeting (APM) in Denver, CO, November 12–15, 2020. The conference theme—Leading Critical Conversations: Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion—reflects a renewed commitment to elevating and leading the effort to attain equity, access, and inclusion in higher education and social work programs in the context of the profession’s social justice mission. CSWE seeks proposals from multiple perspectives that raise critical questions about practices, policies, and structures that affect diversity, equity, and inclusion. The proposal deadline is Monday, February 24, 2020, at 11:59 pm (ET); submit your proposal here.

Policy Practice in Field Education Request for Proposals
The CSWE Policy Practice in Field Education Initiative is now accepting proposals for funding opportunities from schools of social work to improve the capacity of social workers to address policy issues. The fourth cycle of funding is made possible with generous funding from the New York Community Trust (NYCT). With the help of NYCT, this project has expanded policy practice opportunities to improve student knowledge and application of policy-related skills in field placements and community engagement initiatives. Free Webinar: Using SBIRT to Talk to Adolescents About Substance Use
This four-part webinar series introduces health professionals (including social workers) to the screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment (SBIRT) model to learn from adolescents about their substance use, talk about what might motivate them to decide to reduce or abstain, and execute a plan to do so. The webinar series is produced in partnership with the Adolescent SBIRT Project, NORC at the University of Chicago, the BIG Initiative, and the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation. To learn more, click here.

New JSWE Editor-in-Chief Assumes Duties
Danielle E. Parrish, PhD, has been named editor-in-chief of the Journal of Social Work Education (JSWE). Parrish will serve a 3-year term, 2020–2022, during which time she also will head the JSWE Editorial Advisory Board and serve as an ex-officio member of the CSWE Council on Publications.

The Journal of Social Work Education article, “Voting Is Social Work: Voices From the National Social Work Voter Mobilization Campaign” (Mimi Abramovitz, Margaret Sherraden, Kathryn Hill, Tanya Rhodes Smith, Beth Lewis, & Terry Mizrahi), is available for free download on the Taylor & Francis Online site until September 2020. Dr. Abramovitz was CSWE’s 2018 Significant Lifetime Achievement in Social Work Education Award winner, and Dr. Mizrahi was one of the 2019 Service and Leadership in Social Work Education Award winners.

Northwestern to Host Workshop on Culturally Responsive Practice
Northwestern College will host a workshop titled “Culturally Responsive Practice: Engaging With the Latino Population” on February 7 from 9:00 am–4:00 pm in the college’s DeWitt Theatre Arts Center. During the workshop, attendees will learn how to build authentic relationships with the Latino population and how to bring cultural sensitivity, awareness, and responsiveness to their professional practices and community connections. Individuals who work in health care, education, social work, ministry, and mental health fields are encouraged to attend.
