APM Call for Proposals Extended to March 3
Due to recent weather events and the related food shortages, water outages, and power outages, CSWE is extending the call for proposals for the 2021 Annual Program Meeting (APM) to March 3, 2021. If you have been affected by these events and are unable to submit a proposal by the new deadline, please contact us.

Volunteer as a Proposal Reviewer
CSWE seeks volunteers to assist with the peer review process for the 2021 Annual Program Meeting (APM) proposals. The 2021 APM theme is “Leading Critical Conversations: Racial, Economic, & Environmental Justice." Share your subject matter expertise and sign up here by March 3. The only requirements are to understand written English and to have expertise in one or more of the 40 topical areas. Learn more about becoming an APM proposal reviewer.

Preparing Students to Practice in an Interconnected World
With support from the Katherine A. Kendall Institute for International Social Work, the Center for Diversity and Social & Economic Justice (Diversity Center) is developing an evidence-based teaching resource that uses literature from around the world to bring international content to the social work curriculum. The Diversity Center has teamed up with Words Without Borders Campus, an organization that makes contemporary international literature in translation and related multimedia learning resources accessible to students and educators. ADVANCING IPE

Early Bird Discount for 2021 IPEC Leadership Program
Apply by March 2 and take advantage of the early bird registration rate for the 2021 Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) Interprofessional Leadership Development Program (ILDP). The 2021 IPEC ILDP, “After the Disruptive Events of 2020: The Leader’s Role in Creating the Future of Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice,” engages senior leaders and administrators responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of campus-wide IPE programs. The event will be held virtually June 8‒10, 2021. New Slate of Free JSWE Articles Address Race/Racism
In recognition of Black History Month, the Journal of Social Work Education (JSWE) has compiled a new collection of articles by Black authors with a focus on race/racism, oppression, social justice, and related topics. The following articles will be open access until March 31, 2021.

• “An Assessment of Social Work Education Efforts to Recruit and Retain MSW Students of Color” (Bowie, Nashwan, Thomas, Davis-Buckley, & Johnson)

2020 Annual Survey Submission Deadline Extended to March 5
To assist programs experiencing weather, power, water, and health hardships, the deadline to submit the 2020 CSWE Annual Survey has been extended to March 5. Primary contacts for accredited programs should refer to the e-mails they have received with individualized links to complete the survey. More information can be found here.

NORC at the University of Chicago Releases New Online Simulation Training Program
NORC at the University of Chicago, in conjunction with Kognito, has released SBI With Adolescents: Comorbid Substance Use and Mental Health, a new online simulation training program that is free to social work programs and mental health practitioners. This simulation develops learners’ ability to identify and support adolescents at risk for multiple behavioral health issues, including substance use, depression, and suicidal ideation, and conduct brief interventions using evidence-based methods. KATHERINE A. KENDALL INSTITUTE

2021 Kendall Grant Application Cycle Now Open
The Katherine A. Kendall Institute for International Social Work Education (Kendall Institute) has announced that the 2021 grant cycle is now open. The Kendall Institute awards grants for the development of projects to create international social work education materials and curricula that bring the global context into social work classrooms in the United States. Proposals must be submitted to CSWE by April 15, 2021. For more information on how apply, read the request for proposals.

Silence Is Complicity: Attend the Anti-Racism Virtual Summit
CSWE is proud to co-host the Social Work Helper Anti-Racism Virtual Summit March 16–18. The 2021 summit will focus on antiracism, advocacy, and how to support Black and Indigenous communities and people of color. In partnership with CSWE, Social Work Helper is offering schools and degree programs the opportunity to promote the summit at a variety of sponsorship levels that include tickets for their students and faculty members. Packages provide access for less than $2.00 a person, and the Summit can provide field placement hours for students.
 
Apply for the Annie T. Randall Innovator Award
The Annie T. Randall Innovator Award was established to recognize early-career statistical innovators across all job sectors and with any level of educational attainment. The award was named in honor of pathbreaking Black female statistician Annie T. Randall for her pioneering career in government amid pervasive racial discrimination. Established in 2020 by the Biometrics Section, the award provides a $2,000 prize each year. Learn more and apply by March 15.

Please join CSWE and the global social work community at the 37th Annual Social Work at the UN, on March 16. This year’s theme is “Responses to COVID-19: Standing Together Makes Us Stronger.” Registration is free but required; download the registration flyer.

NASEM Mental Health, Substance Use Report Available for Purchase
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) has recently published a report, Mental Health, Substance Use, and Wellbeing in Higher Education: Supporting the Whole Student available for purchase on their website. The report lays out a variety of possible strategies and approaches to meet increasing demand for mental health and substance use services, based on the available evidence on the nature of the issues and what works in various situations. The recommendations of this report will support the delivery of mental health and wellness services by the nation's institutions of higher education.
